The New Zealand Garden Bird Survey is on again – and we’d love our community to get involved.
Run by Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research and supported by Birds New Zealand, this nationwide citizen science project has been running since 2007. It helps track the health of both native and introduced garden birds, providing valuable data to support conservation efforts.
Why take part?
Your observations help paint a picture of how bird populations are tracking, which species are thriving or declining, and where support might be needed to protect our native biodiversity.
How to get involved:
🕐 Choose one hour during the survey period (29 June – 7 July) to count birds in your garden, local park, or green space.
🐦 Count the birds you see or hear. Use the tally sheet from the survey website to help keep track.
