Tena Koutou Kororāreka, here’s our April 2026 update!
April 2026 was packed to the brim for the Trust, with another successful AGM under our belt, more Habitat Restoration Strategy consultations, the welcoming of two new team members on board (Olivia and Nam), and, oh, a whopping 3,696 trap checks across the month!
Our April catches:
🐭 And then there was one! Kororāreka is a unique town for yet another reason. An urban environment where pests are being successfully eliminated. In April 2025, we caught 46 rats in town. In April 2026, we are down to 1!
🐀 There were another 5 rats across the entire elimination zone and 169 rats in the Buffer zone
🐾 There were no Possums across the Elimination zone and 5 Possums in the Buffer zone.

We’re proud to conclude that the rolling buffer zone is proving successful, with a sharp reduction in catches in the elimination and knockdown zone.
